THEN

The term “booze fighter,” originated before the
turn of the 20th Century and was slang to
describe a man fighting the bottle, an alcoholic.

Founded in 1946 by “Wino” Willie Forkner and a
group of WWII vets, the Boozefighters is a club
based on motorcycle racing, brotherhood, and
riding with a healthy dose of drinking thrown in
for good measure.
The Boozefighters came to national prominence
in 1947 because a racing event held in the
farming town of Hollister, CA. In 1953, that event
would be immortalized by Marlon Brando on the
silver screen and would forever etch the image
of the biker on the American psyche.
